This is based on the same principle as hydrostatic weighing, where you are submerged into a tank of water. The BodPod is completely non-invasive and very safe, no X-rays used. An initial consultation will take 30 minutes in total. You will be required to wear a swimming costume and swimming cap, as hair and clothing can affect the volume reading.

The test will give you a comprehensive report, showing your body fat % (skin and organ fat), fat free mass %, lung capacity, metabolic rate (resting and daily expenditure) and where your result benchmarks against the standard population.
Knowing your body fat % is important in order to maintain optimal health. Having too much body fat is detrimental to your well-being as it increases your risk of high blood pressure, joint pain, heart disease, and diabetes. In the same breath, having too little body fat is just as bad and can cause issues such as infertility and a weakened immune system. If you are an athlete, a lower body fat %, within the healthy population standard, is correlated to a higher VO2 Max score, therefore a superior performance level.

VO2 MAX TESTING

 

 

VO2 Max Testing is an accurate way to test your heart rate training specificity in order to get you fitter faster. This is a maximal test to exhaustion, where you perform an exercise protocol on either a treadmill or a Watt bike. Each protocol has an incremental increase in difficulty, it gets tougher every minute during the test. The test ends when you can no longer continue with the protocol’s required level of effort. It is tough but relatively quick and painless.

The test results are extremely useful. You will get your specific heart rate zones for each exercise zone (fat burning; endurance; anaerobic threshold; race pace) as well as the speed (km/hr) or watts (rpm) that coincide with each.
You will now be able to strategically plan your individualized training based on these. The theory is that you should train with 30% of your weekly mileage at your anaerobic threshold heart rate. This will push your fitness limit and make you fitter faster.

It is a smarter way to train. As you become fitter, you will need to be retested as your heart rate zone will shift and you will be able to perform your exercises for a longer time and higher intensity.

Gait Analysis

When a physiotherapist looks at how you walk or run, they can see where your biomechanics are not optimally supporting you. LACTATE THRESHOLD

 

 

Lactate Testing is designed to measure the Lactate build-up in your blood. It tells us when you have reached your threshold level and at which point your muscles start to go into an anaerobic exercise state. During exercise, your muscles are efficiently using oxygen as energy, while clearing the by-products of exercise (CO2; H+; etc.). With steady state exercise, your aerobic metabolism matches the energy requirements of your active muscles.

When the intensity of exercise exceeds the muscles ability to clear the by-products, a build up of lactate results. This is what is known as your ‘lactate threshold’. When you have reached your lactate threshold, your muscles are not longer getting sufficient oxygen for their energy requirements and they start to work anaerobically (without oxygen). It is very hard work for muscles to function anaerobically and you will only be able to sustain this level of effort for around 8 minutes.
This test requires you to run on a treadmill at gradual increases in speed. Finger pricks are taken at the end of each stage to test for lactate build up. We can accurately measure where your specific lactate threshold is and what heart rate coincides with this.

The more you train in your lactate threshold heart rate, the more efficient your body will become at clearing lactate. This means that you will start to reach this threshold at a later stage and higher intensity. It will help you to train smarter and get fit quicker.

These imbalances are calculated by measuring twelve sites with a skin fold calliper.

Most video capture motion system uses markers placed on the body to track movements of joints. Kinetisense is one of the first systems to provide 3D motion tracking information to a clinician that allows them to immediately see how well individual joints are functioning. It can provide instant postural screening by comparing how joints are stacked on top of, or next to each other.

Physiotherpists and exercise physiologists are interested in how much motion you have available in a joint: this helps us to show changes, improvements and evaluate left/right comparisons. Kinetisense helps us to put you through your paces by objectively measuring how much available range there is in each joint. Mobility and stability are tested in functional patterns to provide a highly specific pictorial representation of these scores. This effectively allows us to assess left and right balance, spot potential injury risks and customise individualised treatment and training programs which will optimise function. The results calculated are stored on the Athletic 1080 server in Sweden.

We can use the results to compare with equivalent athletes from around the world.By looking at the MAP we can assess the areas that lack a beneficial amount of movement and when correlated give us a good idea which combination of joint motion is an issue. We will determine if it is a mobility issue (i.e. you do not have the range of motion in that area) or a stability issue (you lack the muscular coordination to hold you in place).
