Fresh Start for Hypertension & Cardiovascular Health
Train with greater confidence and a structured plan designed to support your heart health
Exercise with more certainty
Being told that exercise can help your blood pressure is one thing. Knowing exactly how to exercise when your blood pressure is already elevated can feel very different.
How hard should you work? Which types of training are most useful? How do you know whether your body is responding appropriately?
Fresh Start for Hypertension & Cardiovascular Health gives you a structured 12-week programme with regular monitoring, progressive training and clear measures of your fitness and cardiovascular health.
Who is the programme for?
This programme is designed for adults aged approximately 40–75 with elevated blood pressure or increased cardiometabolic risk who want to exercise within a structured, closely monitored environment.
It can be particularly valuable if you want to:
Become more active while keeping your blood pressure monitored
Improve cardiovascular fitness
Build or maintain strength
Reduce central adiposity
Establish a sustainable exercise routine
Better understand how your body responds to training
What we assess
Your initial assessment can include:
Resting blood pressure
Waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio
Lipid profile and other cardiovascular risk markers where available
Strength and functional testing
Aerobic capacity through submaximal or VOâ‚‚ max assessment
Relevant lifestyle factors including sleep, stress, alcohol and sodium intake
Progress you can measure
We track relevant measures across the 12 weeks, including:
Resting systolic and diastolic blood pressure
Waist measurements
Strength and functional capacity
Aerobic fitness
Self-reported energy
Stress and sleep quality
Key measures are repeated at the end of the programme to give you an objective view of what has changed.
Your 12-week programme
Training combines several complementary approaches. Throughout the programme, your trainer monitors symptoms and blood pressure and adjusts the intensity and progression where required.
Isometric training
Structured isometric holds are incorporated and progressively adapted according to your tolerance and response.
Aerobic training
Moderate-intensity exercise such as walking or cycling forms a key part of the programme, with a broader target of regular aerobic activity across the week.
Resistance training
Two weekly strength sessions target major muscle groups, helping to build physical capacity while supporting broader metabolic health.
Knowing when exercise needs medical input
Exercise should support your health, not compete with appropriate medical care.
Fresh Start includes clear criteria for seeking further medical review, including persistently elevated resting blood pressure despite treatment, symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, fainting or severe breathlessness, new arrhythmia or neurological or renal concerns, and adverse responses to exercise.
How exercise can support cardiovascular health
Regular aerobic and resistance exercise can help lower resting blood pressure, improve cardiovascular fitness and support healthier body composition and metabolic health.
The programme also incorporates isometric exercise: controlled muscular contractions performed without large joint movements. This provides another targeted form of strength work that can be incorporated into a broader programme for blood pressure management.
The important part is not any single exercise. It is building the right combination around your starting point and your response.
Start Building A Stronger Foundation
You do not have to choose between avoiding exercise and throwing yourself into an unsuitable gym programme.
Fresh Start provides another option: structured exercise, sensible progression and professional monitoring around the health concerns that matter to you.
